Holiday Homework Part 1

1.Explain in your own words, the FOUR key recommendations of the report.

To make housing elderly friendly. They propose to give the elderly many housing options by adding age sensitive features. This will allow the elderly to feel more comfortable and same.

The second response is to make install lifts into the HDB flats so as to allow the elderly to move freely especially people with problems in movement. The other recommendation was to make the buses elderly friendly so they can travel with ease.

The the fourth recommendation was to help put money to medisave accounts of seniors who are needy and that family physicians should help tell them about the healthcare services available.

The final recommendation was to promote a healthy lifestyle for the elderly so that they can remain healthy and socialize with the other people.

2.State ONE way that the CAI report is recommending to make our public housing more elderly friendly

To make the housing in a way so that the elderly will feel a part of the community.

3. State TWO ways on how we can ensure that the quality of elderly care here in Singapore is affordable

We can make cheaper houses and give the elderly many more discounts on things to reduce he cost of living.

We can also give donations of food so the elderly can use the money for other things.

4. After reading the CAI report, what do you are the THREEthings that you can do, as an SST student, to help overcome these elderly challenges

I think that we can organize many functions with the elderly to improve the bond between the elderly and us.

We can go to the old age homes to help out as this would mean the elderly will get to meet new people and they will also get to talk to someone.

We can also design products which the elderly can use easily to help them improve the way of life.

Selecting your EQ's

1. How can we teach the younger generation to be more selfless and put the needs of their elders before theirs?
I have chosen this as more and more elderly are left in the old age home by their children. I feel that when we were children your elders put our needs before theirs so we can be happy but when it is our turn we just desert them and do not care about them.

2. How can we make the younger generation take care of they're elderly willingly?

By putting the elderly in old age homes most of them do not get the necessary attention in terms of medical attention, etc. By getting the younger generation to take care of the elderly the elderly will be more happy and be not a burden.

3.How can we help the elderly to move better?

The problem the elderly face a lot is not being able to move. Because of this many of them die as they are not able to reach medical help quick enough. By them being able to move better they will be able to socialize and therefore the generation gap will also be narrowed.

Personal Reflection (NEWater visit)

1. The 3 takeaways are that water in Singapore is very important, NEWater is not for quenching our thirst but mostly for commercial uses and that if one day for some reason there is a dry spell for like 4 to 5 months we can depend on NEWater to keep Singapore’s taps flowing with water.

2. The 2 concepts are that NEWater actually filters out waste water and not rain water and that NEWater has added 1 extra filtration technique so that the people in Singapore believe that NEWater is completely safe.

3. That the membrane used is reverse osmosis has pores and which are just big enough to allow the water molecules to pass through.

4. We can firstly not waste water and use only what we need, secondly we try not litter in Singapore’s water ways and lastly not pollute the water ways.

Week 10: Revisiting 'Bad Design' - IDEO's Shopping trolley projec

The trolly catches the wind, it cannot make sharp turns and it is not very safe for the children sitting in the basket. The rules they follow are: Stay focused on the topic and Encourage wild ideas. The people working there have the freedom to make their on office space as they wish and they do not sit behind the computer to do research. We can go around Singapore to find hat we need and we can decorate our learning space the way we want it.

Week 5: Sustainable Design...a wow idea!

Something that can be sustained by itself without the need of fossil fuels. When producing energy a sustainable design is important. In producing food sustainable designs can be incorporated. I think he was inspired by the fact that if we do not save mother earth then no one will. Such contraptions will help us save fossil fuels and intern do not help speed up the rate of global warming.

Week 3: Doing ‘Research’ (Part 2)

Sustainable Design is a design in which something is environmentally friendly and an be sustained without producing a negative impact. A sustainable design must use low- impact materials, energy efficient, durable, not produce too much waste and must a plan to reuse and recycle products.

Week 3: Understanding Research ( Part 1 )

Research is to find information and perspectives of something. It is important as we do not jump to conclusions. We can search many places for the same information so we can conduct a good research.

ADMT Lesson 1: Personal Reflection

To me ADMT is to to draw using technology. It is important as we gain skills in drawing. I would like to learn to draw better and become a better artist. Without ADMT the world would be as plane as this house.
